Hardwood Frames
The York range incorporates a unique structural assembly allowing more glass area than most traditional wood frames. The York range is manufactured from only the finest eastern white pine, western red cedar or clear vertical grain Douglas fir, kiln-dried to 12% moisture content and preservative-treated in accordance with AAMA and NFRC specifications. The eastern white pine has been the mainstay of residential construction and ranks highly on stability and low on shrinkage. It is comparatively uniform in texture and is straight grained. Its natural appearance is light brown in color, often highlighted with a reddish glow. The western red cedar is known to be highly resistant to decay and is offered for those who want something a little more unique. Its colors range from red, pink and soft brown to the ivory of its sapwood. This rustic wood is perfect for those who want to add a touch of under-stated elegance to their conservatory. The Douglas fir is the first choice of engineers and architects for structural superiority. It is dimensionally stable and universally recognized for its superior strength-to-weight ratio. The species also enjoys a superior performance against strong forces resulting from natural phenomena, such as high winds, storms and earthquakes.
The York range frames are assembled with sealant and solid fasteners at each corner, increasing durability. The hardware is coated with E-Gard which is a superior chemical and corrosion resistant finish that protects the operating mechanism. A choice of six attractive colors of hardware is available on the York range.
