Often referred to as a sunroom in North America, a conservatory is a derivative of an earlier glass room – or orangery – popular in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. This glass room was often used to conserve and cultivate exotic plant species brought back by aristocracy returning from expeditions to far-off places. Today, the modern conservatory has evolved into a glass room with unlimited design options and uses, limited only by the owner’s imagination.
